Overview An inner suburb 8 kilometres northwest of the Melbourne Central Business District, Maribyrnong takes its name from the Maribyrnong River. It is bordered by Aberfeldie, Ascot Vale, Avondale Heights, and Maidstone. According to the 2016 census, it had a population of 12,216 residents.
Living in Maribyrnong Maribyrnong is home to one of Australia's largest shopping precincts, the Highpoint Shopping Centre. It also houses the Department of Defense's storage facility and ammunitions factory, allotted for low-density housing and commercial development.
The suburb has several schools, including some public and Catholic schools. St Margarets Catholic Primary School and Footscray North Primary School accept primary school students while the Maribyrnong College provides secondary education.
