History of Alfords Point In 1828, Jane Alford, who was the widow of John Alford Senior, owned 50 acres of land in the area. In 1906, the Sutherland Shire was officially formed and the western boundary extended to Bangor (now called Menai). Earlier, the area was attached to the Municipality of Hurstville. During the late 1970s-1980s, Modern Alfords Point started to develop alongside the Menai Town Centre. This was when large plots of bushland were divided for residential development.
