History of Beenleigh The area of Beenleigh is initially inhabited by the Bundjalung people, an Aboriginal tribe. They lived in the area until the Europeans arrived in the 1860s. It was first surveyed in 1866, and a year later, the first sugarcane mill was built in this area. By 1885, there were 29 more of these mills. The dairying activity began in 1889.
