Overview Birtinya is a Kawana Waters’ suburb in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. The area has Kawana Forest as its neighbourhood. It is located 8.3 kilometres of Caloundra Central Business District and 13.9 SSE of Maroochydore. The suburb is 92.6 kilometres Norther of Brisbane. According to the 2016 census, it has a population of 1,933 people.
Living in Birtinya As the suburb is built around Lake Kawana, it is a preferred location for nature lovers. There is a Lake Kawana Community Centre located beside the lake on Sportsmans Drive. It has many halls and meetings rooms and also provides commercial kitchen facilities. The Sunshine Coast Regional Council operates the community centre. There is also a Sunshine Coast University Hospital that was opened in 2017. This facility was opened by the Queensland Premier and Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services.
History of Birtinya Birtinya reportedly got its name from an Aboriginal word that means ‘neighbouring’. The name was suggested by Alfred Grant Pty Ltd., a development company, in 1960. In 2001, Pacific Lutheran College opened, but it is currently within Meridan Plain’s boundaries. There are no schools in the suburb as it is pretty small, but Kawana Waters State College is in neighbouring Bokarina to the East.
