History of Caulfield It is unsure where the suburb was named after, but it is likely related to Baron Caulfield of Ireland. From as early as 1853, the area was already known by its current name.
In its early years during the colony's first settlement, the area was used as a watering and pasture land as the low-lying land was mainly swampy. By the 1840s, the area, which is now known as Caulfield Park, was already developed into the main commercial area of the suburb.
