Overview The suburb of Earlwood sits 10 km southwest of the Sydney CBD. The South Western Sydney suburb is part of the Canterbury-Bankstown city government area. It extends from the south of Cooks River to the north of Wolli Creek. The Undercliffe is part of Earlwood, which Clemton Park surrounds to its west.
Living in Earlwood It is a residential area with commercial development in shops, café, restaurants and supermarkets. Earlwood is loved for its safety, cleanliness and rapid growth. History of Earlwood John Parkes received Earlwood in the form of a land grant in 1827. After World War I, a subdivision came up west of Wardell Road dedicated to retired army men, with the streets commemorating the warriors' names. The Canterbury estate was trendy as it incorporated Richmond, Grove, Bedford and Stone streets. It also took on the roads of Caroline, Ann, Sparke and Louisa. The Scott family was a notable occupant. They ran the Scottie's tissue factory here.
Electric trams serviced the area via Marrickville and Newtown from 1912 to 1957. Now there are excellent bus service facilities in the area. It has several heritage-listed sites.
