History of Fyansford The town is named after Captian Foster Fyans, who arrived in Geelong in 1837 as a Police magistrate. Previously, the suburb was called Fyans’ Town.
Fyansford is known to be one of the earliest locations of settlement in the region of Geelong. It was once a centre of Geelong’s major industry, with a flour mill being built here by William Henry Collins on the banks of Barwon river in 1845. It is also in the area where cement was produced, which began in 1890.
