History of Granville The area became Granville in 1880 after Granville Leveson-Gower, a British diplomat and statesman. Before that, it was Parramatta Junction, the western terminus of the first NSW railway line established in 1855.

The Sydney-Parramatta railway provided the suburb with an impetus to grow. New residents and industries came to the area finding it convenient to commute. The Granville Municipality came into existence in 1885. It became a part of the Parramatta council in 1948.
