Overview The western Sydney suburb of Granville is 18 km from the CBD of Australia’s largest city. Once the last stop of New South Wale’s first railway line, it is now an excellent locality to invest, rent, live in or work. Granville comes under a spilt administrative jurisdiction of both Parramatta and Cumberland councils.

The surrounding neighbourhood includes Harris Park, Auburn, South Granville, Rosehill, Merrylands and Guildford. The population was 15,332 at the 2016 census.

History of Granville The area became Granville in 1880 after Granville Leveson-Gower, a British diplomat and statesman. Before that, it was Parramatta Junction, the western terminus of the first NSW railway line established in 1855.

The Sydney-Parramatta railway provided the suburb with an impetus to grow. New residents and industries came to the area finding it convenient to commute. In 1862, the foreclosure of the huge Drainville estate led to several farming and residential areas in Granville. By 1878, it had a post office. The Granville Municipality came into existence in 1885. It became a part of the Parramatta council in 1948.
