*History of Wendouree The suburb of Wendouree is named after Lake Wendouree. The Wendouree Post Office was opened on 17 February 1871. Urban growth in Wendouree began a short time after World War II, onset by the development of industrial areas to the west. The Howitt Street shopping centre was opened in 1962, and the Wendouree Shopping Centre opened in 1978. The Wendouree Shopping Centre has now been renamed Stockland Shopping Centre. The Forest Street Primary School was opened in February 1966, and the Wendouree West Primary School was opened in 1957 and was renamed Grevillea Park in the early 1990s.
