History of Wendouree The squatter William Cross Yuille had camped on Black Swamp's shores that are modernly recognized as Lake Wendouree and is the first resident of Ballarat; the mid-1800s witnessed the development of Yuille Pastoral Run. 17th of February 1871 is the opening date of Wendouree Post office; it has seen significant amounts of urban growth subsequently to the Second World War. 1962 is when Howitt Street shopping centre opened and the year for the starting of Wendouree village shopping centre was 1978. While the year 2000 marks the conversion of St Mary's Redemptorist Monastery into apartments.
