Overview Melton West is among the newest and most popular suburbs of Melbourne. At 40 km from the city's centre, the locality is the westernmost part of the City of Melton local government. It has been a part of the Greater Melbourne Metropolitan Area since 2010 and had a population of 17,589 in 2016.
History of Melton West The Melton area had its first settlements in the 1830s, and it expanded largely Melton and Melton South positioned along the way to the Ballarat goldfields. However, the rise of the City of Melton in the 1970s saw an increasing flow of urban middle-class buying homes in the area. With an increase in the demand for real estate, the area began to extend westward, and Melton West began taking shape in the 1990s. The first office was set up in 1994.
