Overview Richlands is an outer south-western suburb in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located 19.6 km by road southwest of the Brisbane central business district. In the 2016 census, Richlands was occupied by 3,598 people.
Living in Richlands Richlands is a great suburb with an extensive range of ethnic diversity. It has many recreational clubs, including the Brisbane West Tennis Centre, the Darra Oxley Pony Club, and Richlands Tenpin Bowl. Also, it is home to Queensland Lions Football Club, who take part in the Brisbane Premier League. Services located in the area include Queensland State Emergency Service, Richlands Community Centre, and the Magistrates Court. There are no schools in the suburb, and the nearest ones are in Inala, Darra, and Wacol. The Centenary Motorway passes through from north-west to southwest. The East and south of the area are used for residential purposes, while the North and West have industrial undertakings.
History of Richlands Richlands was named after the Richland Estate, a subdivision of small farms sold in 1928-1829. Earlier, the suburb was a part of the larger suburb of Darra and became a separate suburb in 1975. The main occupation of people living in the area at that time was dairy and poultry farming, along with some honey production and table grape growing. Richlands State School was opened in 1934 but closed in 2010. In 1970, Richlands State High School opened in Poinsettia Street, and it was amalgamated with Inala State High School in the 1990s.
