Overview Oxley is a suburb southwest of Brisbane city, sitting 10 km from the capital. A small portion on the north traces the Brisbane River while the remaining section is bounded by its neighbouring communities―Corinda on the north, Seventeen Mile Rocks and Darra on the west, Rocklea on the east, and Durack on the south. Both Ipswich Motorway and Blunder Road cuts through the centre of the suburb. The 2016 census of Oxley documented a total number of 23,352 residents.

History of Oxley Oxley obtained its name from an Australian explorer, John Oxley. Oxley owned a vast expanse of land that even included other northern Brisbane suburbs such as Chelmer, Corinda, Graceville, and some localities on the south. The initial subdivision of lands happened along Douglas Street in 1864.
