Overview Somers is a small seaside suburb in Melbourne situated 90 kilometres southwest of Melbourne’s central business district. It is within the LGA of the Shire of Mornington Peninsula.

Somers is neighboured by the localities of Balnarring, Bittern, and Merricks. HMAS Cerberus, which is the base of the Royal Australian Navy and Western Port, is located on its eastern and southern borders. As per the 2016 census, Somers is home to 1,667 residents.

History of Somers Somers is originally called Balnarring East but was renamed after a former Governor of Victoria, who established the Lord Somers Camp.

Subdivisions in Somers started in 1925 and a cafe and post office opened two years after. In 1929, a local school opened here. A year after, the town was officially renamed as Somers. The town, however, hasn’t seen any major developments since the 1920s.
