Beginning in 1857, the government started to divide the land into blocks to provide a living for local farmers. Orchardists and dairymen took an interest in the area, and by the 1920s, stores were already operating in the town of Red Hill. It was also this time when a railway station started to operate here. The railway, however, was short-lived and ceased its operations in 1953.
