Overview Truganina suburb is located 22 kilometres west of the Central Business District of Melbourne. It is situated in the Melton and Wyndham city administration. The suburb gets its name from Truganini, who was an Aboriginal Tasmanian woman. The rapidly growing suburb is densely populated with 20,687 people, according to the 2016 census. It enjoys a beautiful location on the map of Melbourne, with Skeleton-Waterholes Creek bordering the west while the Foundation flanks its eastern side. The northern part connects the Federation Trail.

History of Truganina On 12 June 1878, the first Truganina Post Office was started. But it closed in 1895 only to be resumed a few years later in 1902. The post office closed forever four decades later in 1942. It was only in 2008 that the Tarneit Post Office was opened nearby to serve the area. Truganina also suffered immensely during the 1969 bushfires, as the flames enveloped 60 houses here.
