History of Browns Plains Browns Plains was once an extensive area that now spreads from Oxley Creek to Hawthorn Park playground and had Hillcrest, Forestdale, Regents Park and Heritage Park suburbs. In 1840, revenue records mentioned the northern part of the plain as Browns Plains, and it became a separate locality. Bus services connected the area with Brisbane in 1863, and a post office came up in 1872. Browns Plains had its first school in 1878. Until the 1950s, it was a hub of tobacco farming.

The 1970s and 80s saw the beginning of large-scale residential settlements, and Browns Plains got a Westpoint Shopping Centre in 1984.
