Overview Croydon Park is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney located 10 kilometres southwest of the Sydney Central Business District. Not to be mistaken with Croydon that is a separate suburb to the North. Croydon Park is large compared to other neighbouring suburbs and has a commercial strip along Georges River Road. As per the 2016 population census, there were 11,012 residents in the suburb.
Living in Croydon Known for its peaceful and village-like mood, Croydon is a multicultural and multigenerational suburb. The area is mainly loved by families as it is small enough to cultivate a community. It has some excellent bakeries and restaurants serving diverse cuisine. The parklands are perfect for picnics, and the bike path extends up to Homebush and down to Botany Bay. History of Croydon It is believed that Croydon Park was home to the Wangal clan and originally part of the territory of the Darug tribe. The area may also have been home to the Cadigal or Bideagal clans, and it is also believed that there were middens along the Cooks River where they camped. Early British settlers destroyed these camps to make lime for mortar in buildings. In 1878 and 1880, a railway station at Croydon was opened, leading to further development in the area.
