History of Keperra The name of this suburb is derived from a Yuggera word that means “young man”. This name is said to have links with the initiation ceremonies conducted by the indigenous tribes in the area. In the late 1800s, the land was sold to John and Mary Nicholson, who built a home in this area. The land changed ownership over the years and was used for a variety of purposes, including as an army camp and slaughterhouse site.
