The land was also used as a sugar farm and mill and a small tourist destination. Eventually, the town became idle, and a real estate entity attempted to sell it, but it was also unsuccessful because the location of Surfers Paradise was inaccessible. It only started to become a thriving tourist spot when Jubilee Bridge was built in 1925.
