History of Tamborine Tamborine was initially inhabited by the Wangerriburra Clan, who spoke the Bundjalung language. This group of Aboriginal people gave its name to Tamborine either from the word 'jambireen' that means 'wild lime tree', or 'dumbireen,' which means 'yam in a cliff.' In the 1860s, European timber getters settled in Cedar Creek and used the land to found a sawmill. In March 2008, Tamborine was officially subdivided into two regions: Scenic Rim Region and Logan City. Before this, the region was inside the borders of the Shire of Beaudesert.
