Overview Connewarre is a rural suburb in Victoria, Australia. It is located southeast of Geelong and part of the Eastern Precinct of the large Armstrong Creek Growth Area. At the 2016 census, the population of the area was recorded at 788.
Living in Connewarre Connewarre is one of the quiet suburbs where you will find a mix of houses. The former Connewarre Primary School has been merged with Mount Duneed Primary School. The suburb is in transition and is fast evolving into a residential belt. At the moment, Connewarre is relatively small, but there are already housing developments in the area. Urbanisation has entered Connewarre in a housing estate on its north-east and a golf course in its southeast. The housing estate is part of the Armstrong Creek development zone.
History of Connewarre Connewarre was named after Lake Connewarre, which is located in its northeast. The name of the locality of believed to be derived from a version of ‘kunuwarra’, the name of the black swan in the Wathawurrung language. The black swan is a bird commonly found on the lake and nearby wetlands. The area's urban development began in 2010, but the boundary of the area was adjusted, and the area north of Lower Duneed Road was excluded along with the west of Baenschs Lane. The settlements began in Breamiea to the South, Barwon Heads to the East, and Torquay to the West. In 1860, the Post Office was established, but it closed in 1967.
