History of Waterford William Fryar named Waterford on June 11, 1866, either after the suburb of Waterford in Ireland or the fact that the place was across a river. Three years before this, a ferry service started to sail across the Logan River and near what we know today as Waterford. During the late 1860s, establishments began rising in the suburb, such as schools, farms, settlement areas, and hotels. However, the residential development did not succeed at first because the suburb was highly prone to flooding.
