Overview Peakhurst is a suburb nestled within the Southern Sydney region. It is 21 km away from the CBD and is part of Georges River Council. Salt Pan Creek borders the west section of the locality while other suburbs take up the east, north, and south portions. These include Riverwood, Beverly Hills, Penshurst, Peakhurst Heights, Mortdale, and Lugarno. One of the many roads that go through the expanse is Forest Road, which connects to Henry Lawson Drive. This pathway is dubbed as the busiest carriageway, linking other neighbourhoods in the region. In 2016, the population in the area was 30,582.
Living in Peakhurst Peakhurst is often called “Peaky” by the locals. This quiet neighbourhood is nearby various shopping hubs in Mortdale, Roseland, and Hurstville. History of Peakhurst In 1838, John Robert Peake, a renowned landlord, purchased an expanse along Forest Road and Henry Lawson Drive. He then became the origin of the suburb’s name. In 1855, Peake offered a portion of the land, which is now the location of Wesleyan Church. The post office was established afterwards in 1885. One of the earliest industries in the area was timber-cutting and subsequently followed by orchard farming.
